Woodland Spring Lamb Card

Happy Friday! My parents raise sheep and right now is lambing season. They currently have 20 babies with a few more mothers still expecting. It's always fun to see the babies this time of year.

This Woodland Spring Lamb Card has the same layout as the last card I made but I used different colors and patterned paper. Then I used the Woodland Spring Lamb image by Newton's Nook instead of the rabbit. The floral paper is from the Spring Things paper pad by Doodlebug Designs (2016) and was die cut with the Frames and Flags die set by Newton's Nook. Copic markers were used to color the images and then the coordinating dies were used. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the first weekend of Spring.

Sweet Spring Hello Card

Hello! Later today is the "official" start to Spring and our backyard cottontails have been pretty active. The other morning we saw five cottontail rabbits chasing each other in the backyard. Don't be fooled by these cute critters, they have a violent tendency to protect their territory. We caught two fighting on our back porch a couple of nights ago and when the sun came up I noticed bloody paw prints on the porch. I'm hoping the bunny wasn't too injured. 😢 They are cute but they are feisty!

This Sweet Spring Hello Card was made using two different Newton's Nook stamp sets. The rabbit with flowers is from the Woodland Spring stamp set and the other rabbit is from the Bitty Bunnies stamp set. Copic markers were used to color the images and the coordinating dies were used. To create the layers I used the Frames & Flags die set by Newton's Nook. A fancy piece of purple gingham adds some pattern to the card and that's it. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the first day of Spring.

Hello Fabulous! Card

Hello and happy Friday! Are you starting to see signs of Spring? The maple trees in my yard are starting to bud and the daffodil shoots are above ground. Yesterday a Mockingbird was making quite the chatter in the bush by my front window. So when I can across this bird image for a progressive challenge by Limited Run Stamps on Facebook, I decided I had to play along. Copic markers were used to color the image and it was die cut with a stitched square die. The floral patterned paper is by Authentique and the polka dot is by Simple Stories. To finish the card the Hello Fabulous! sentiment by Fiskars was stamped with Memento black ink and three light pink enamel dots by Stampin' Up! were added to the bottom right corner. That's it! So glad you stopped by and enjoy the rest of your day.

Chubby Butterfly Card

Hello and happy July 1st! There a lot of people with holiday/vacation plans this week since the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday. I hope you will have time to enjoy with family and friends. Please remember to keep your animals safe during fireworks! The 4th of July results in many animals running away from home or getting injured because they were scared.

This Chubby Butterfly Card was made with a couple of challenges in mind. I used the recipe challenge at Catch The Bug to use Kraft and a BRIGHT POP of color. Dry and wet embossing were used to play along at The Crafty Catz and I'm also linking this card to the anything goes challenge at Lil Patch of Crafty Friends. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the holiday week!

Hello Honey Card

Good day! It's a cold rainy day today, so I stayed indoors and made this Hello Honey Card. This weather has me thinking about Spring and all the lovely Spring flowers. So, I decided to use Spring patterned papers by Pebbles from the Spring Fling collection/2015. The bear and bee images are from the Winston's Honeybees stamp set by Newton's Nook. All images and sentiment were stamped with Memento black ink. Copic markers were used to color the images and then they were die cut with a stitched circle die by My Favorite Things. Cardstock colors include: Basic Black, Mint Macaroon, Hello Honey and Watermelon Wonder all by Stampin' Up!. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Bird Card Remake

Hello and happy Tuesday! I started my part-time job yesterday and we were busy all day getting ready for Black Friday. It's been awhile since I've stood on feet for over six hours straight but it wasn't too bad. Just wish me luck with the opening shift on Black Friday!!!

One of my favorite things to do is remake cards using the same layout and details but changing the papers and colors. So, I picked one of my favorite cards (click here for original) and decided to make it in Autumn/Fall colors. Papers selected for this Bird Card Remake include: Plaid by Lawn Fawn, Red Floral by Pebbles and Woodgrain by Stampin' Up!. The Hello sentiment is by TPC Studio and three brown sequins finished it off. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Pretty Kitty meets Petal Garden

Hello! The summer heat is getting stronger and that means I stay indoors and craft! This time of year I run all my errands after dark. Going to the grocery store at 10 p.m. is perfect if you like to shop almost by yourself and I do! My hubby and I dream about moving to a cooler climate but for now... we are in sunny Oklahoma.

When I think of summertime I think of the pretty flowers and outdoor animals. So, I made this Pretty Kitty meets Petal Garden Card to combine both. This is the third card in my Pretty Kitty meets series. You can check out Pretty Kitty meets Playful Palette and Pretty Kitty meets Gorgeous Grunge. Don't be surprised that the layouts are all the same, the only thing that changes are the patterned paper and background stamp set. I love seeing the same card is different colors. You don't have to reinvent new layouts all the time, if you find something that works use it.

This Pretty Kitty meets Petal Garden Card is entered into the following challenges:

Stampin' Up! supplies include:
  • Paper: Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry, Calypso Coral and Sweet Sugarplum cardstock along with Garden Petal dsp.
  • Stamps: Pretty Kitty, Timeless Textures and Papillon Potpourri (retired).
  • Inks: Memento black and Classic Stampin' pads in Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Peekaboo Peach and Soft Sky.
  • Other Stuff: Blender Pen, bitty butterfly punch (retired), old olive twine (retired), basic pearls and stampin' dimensionals.
The past couple of months I've been watching a cute baby cottontail in my backyard. It loves to eat petunias and I found some at half price that I planted for it. My hubby planted the pot in the photo with some petunias that were dying but it hasn't stopped little Bun Bun from eating them. The sweet little bunny has also decided it likes to eat the leaves off my perennials, but they will grow back. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Cute Kitty Hello Card

Hello and happy Saturday! I'm on my second month as a guest designer at the Catch The Bug Challenge and I'm having a lot of fun using Bugaboo Digi Stamps and sharing them with you. Today is the start of a theme challenge and the theme is Raining Cats & Dogs, such a fun theme! I hope you will play along. You can find all the challenge details and fantastic design team inspiration right HERE.

When it came to image selection... it was clear this challenge was going to the dogs. Most of the design team went with a canine approach. Well, that just wouldn't do! I'm proclaiming to be on the "Cats Team" and decided to use the Cute Kitty image for this Hello Card. The image was colored with Copic markers and then die cut with a stitched circle die by My Favorite Things. All the patterned papers are from my scrap bin, I was just about to cut into some new papers when I changed my mind. The sentiment is from Jillibean Soup Handwritten Sentiments stamp set by Hampton Art. For detail I went with a bitty blue butterfly and twine. That's it!

Spring Duck Hi Card

Hello and thank goodness for Saturday! I hope you get to enjoy the day and do something crafty. You're welcome to play along in the new challenge starting today at Catch The Bug, the theme is Birds, Bees or Butterflies. The design team have made some wonderful inspiration to share with you! Click here for all the challenge details and design team creations. I hope you can join the fun!

The Spring Duck image is one of my favorites! It was colored with Copic markers and then die cut with a stitched square by Lil' Inkers. I combined papers from several different companies. First is a layer of Daffodil Delight cardstock by Stampin' Up!, second is red gingham by Pebbles (America the Beautiful Collection), third is Field of Flowers by Photo Play (Happy Glamper Collection) and last is Grass Paper by Creating Keepsakes (date on the paper is 2002, so it's been around for awhile). The Hi (that's all) sentiment is from the retired Sale-A-Bration Party Pants stamp set by Stampin' Up!. Some twine and three green sequins are the finishing accents and that's it.

Hello My Friend Card

Hello my friends! I've been enjoying a few weeks with minimal computer usage, so I haven't been blogging. However, I have been crafting and will share some of my recent creations soon. Today is the start of a new challenge at Tuesday Throwdown and the theme is Say it with Words. Our sponsor is Winnie & Walter and they generously provided a spending allowance for the design team to select our merchandise. It was really hard to pick but keeping the theme in mind, I got the Hello Cutaway & The Big, the bold, and the Happy stamp set. We would love for you to join us! Click HERE for all the challenge details and design team inspiration. You have until mid-day Monday, February 20th to link your creation. I hope to see your link in the gallery!

It was difficult to get a good photo of this card! There really is a lot of shimmer and shine. The background was made using mixed media paper along with glimmer mists in Lime Light and Sunlight by Tattered Angels. I had some problems with the Sunlight spray bottle getting clogged but I like the splotchy look it created. Once everything was dry I added a strip of Wild Wasabi chevron paper by Stampin' Up! and matted the panel to black cardstock. The hello was die cut using a Big Shot and adhered flat to the card. My Friend was stamped onto white cardstock and punched for the banner detail. The last addition was three gold sequins and that's it!

Happy Fall Card

Hello! Each day we are inching closer to Fall/Autumn and that makes me very happy. We are expecting a small cool front to come in for the weekend and I'm eager for the ninety degree weather to go away. This afternoon I took a break from sewing and made this Happy Fall Card. The stamp set by Newton's Nook was and exclusive to Simon Says Stamp last year and is one of my favorites for Fall. All patterned paper is from the new Pebbles Woodland Forest paper pad. The image was colored with Copic markers and the layout is from the current sketch at Paper Play Sketches. I really enjoyed making this card, so I may make a couple more just like it to send to family and friends. Thanks for stopping by my blog today and I hope you come back again soon.

Pretty Kitty meets Playful Palette

Do you like to play around with color? I love making similar cards and changing the colors to compare the differences. That's exactly what I did with this Pretty Kitty meets Playful Palette Card*. It is a remake of the Pretty Kitty meets Gorgeous Grunge card I posted yesterday. I added an additional strip of patterned paper and twine to this card to show how small changes can make a difference. The background stamping on this card was done using the Timeless Textures stamp set. The splatters in this stamp set are small and it was turned and repeated several times, using the stamp off technique occasionally to give the ink a lighter shade. So, which one do you like better, Playful Palette or Gorgeous Grunge?

This Pretty Kitty meets Playful Palette Card is entered into the following challenges:
*All supplies are by Stampin' Up! unless noted: Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum and Blushing Bride cardstock, Playful Palette paper pad, Pretty Kitty stamp set, Timeless Textures stamp set and Papillon Potpourri stamp set. Classic stampin' pads in: Peekaboo Peach, Blushing Bride, Emerald Envy and Sweet Sugarplum. Memento black ink pad, Copic markers in warm gray tones, Bitty Butterfly punch, Emerald Envy twine, stitched circle die cut by My Favorite Things and basic pearls. That's it!

Pretty Kitty meets Gorgeous Grunge

If you are anything like me when you get new supplies you may neglect your older stash. This especially happens with patterned paper and retired ink colors! I'm a patterned paper junkie and I'll never use it all. So, today I pulled out the retired Moonlight paper pad and created this card using the new Pretty Kitty stamp set with the current Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, both by Stampin' Up! Some of the colors are retired and some are current and they include: Basic Gray, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon and Whisper White. The flowers in the kitty image were colored with a blender pen and ink pads, while the gray pot was colored with Copic markers. A butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set was added with three rhinestones for sparkle and that's it. The layout is simple and everything was adhered flat for easy shipping.

Simple Hi Card

The last week my creativity has been pretty low. It seems I just can't get motivated! I'll look up challenges and check out my blog feed for inspiration but... nothing. I'm blaming the summer heat and maybe I just need a creative break.

This afternoon I was able to follow the sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches. Everything on this card was already printed or punched and on my craft desk. All I had to do was cut some paper, adhere everything together and stamp a sentiment. Pretty simple! The patterned paper is from the May Berry paper pad by American Crafts and the Polka Dot Bella digital image from Paper Creator came pre-colored. This image reminds me of one of my baby pictures. My mom had tied a "do rag" on my head and handed me a couple of toothbrushes while I was sitting on a green washing machine (see below). The photo was taken when I was 14 months old in 1975.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Celebrating 900 Posts!!!

Hello crafty friends! First, I want to welcome all my new followers, I'm so glad you've joined my blog. Second, I'm Celebrating 900 Posts!!! That's right this is my 900th blog post at Savvy Handmade Cards. I'd say that calls for a giveaway! I've got a retired Moonlight paper stack, basic gray twine and a blender pen all by Stampin' Up! for one lucky follower. You have a week to leave me a comment and I'll randomly choose a winner on Tuesday, July 19th.

To create this Flamingo Hello Card I used this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday. The image area was the perfect size to use a flamingo stamp by Stampendous! that I bought on sale but had never used. After looking up pictures of flamingos,  I colored the image with Copic markers. The argyle paper is by Crate Paper and the Hello sentiment is by TPC Studios.

Yellow Bird Hello Card

It's a sad goodbye to the month of May! Besides it being my birthday month we generally have nice weather in May and lots of new baby critters show up around my house. Recently I've seen several baby birds at our seed feeders and a parent is feeding them. It's fun to watch them flap their wings while they are being fed.

When I saw the photo inspiration challenge at Catch The Bug was a Meadowlark I knew I had to play along. I love birds but more specifically I love yellow birds. All the paper on this card is by Crate Paper. The Calling Bird image was die cut using a stitched circle die by My Favorite Things. Copic markers were used to color the image and then it was matted to a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. The Hello sentiment by TPC Studio was stamped using Early Espresso ink. Three brown sequins were added for some sparkle and that's it!

Monkey Hello Card

There is nothing like waiting until the last few hours to play along in a monthly challenge. I had good intentions of getting my card for the April progressive challenge from Gerda Steiner done earlier. The image has been printed and on my desk for at least three weeks, but I'm pretty good an procraftinating!!!

All the patterned papers on this card have been in my stash for a number of years. The cardstock colors are Whisper White, Early Espresso and Mossy Meadow by Stampin' Up!. Using a stitched square die cut by Lil' Inkers the image was die cut and then colored with Copic markers. Then using Tumbled Glass distress ink I sponged the clouds. I added seven 4 mm aquamarine sequins by Pink Posh to add a little sparkle. The sentiment is from TPC Studios and was stamped using Early Espresso ink. That's it! Pretty simple and everything was adhered flat for easy shipping.

Bethany Bunny Hello Card

Hello! It's Tuesday again and time for another challenge at Tuesday Throwdown. This week we want you to use your die cuts on your creations. We are sponsored by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps and I've used the Bethany Bunny's Flower image on this Hello Card. You have until mid-day on Monday, April 18th to play along. Click here for all the challenge details and delightful design team inspiration. We look forward to seeing your creation in the gallery.

It seems I got so busy thinking about patterned paper selection, layout and coloring that I almost forgot to use die cuts on my card this week. (Oops!) The main image was die cut using a stitched rectangle die by Lil' Inkers and the only other die cut used was the layered butterfly. A little clear Wink of Stella was added to the butterfly to make it shimmer. The patterned papers are from the Life In Color paper pad by Simple Stories. Using a Hello sentiment from TPC Studios and black Memento ink the sentiment was stamped and accented with small yellow flowers on either side. Three banners were used at the base of the image and three yellow flowers with sequin centers are at the top corner for a pop of color.

Don't forget to play along with our die cut challenge this week! I can't wait to see what you create. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!
