Big Butterfly Birthday Card

Good afternoon! I've got a quick post to share this Big Butterfly Birthday Card I made for the following challenges:
When I use the Swallowtail stamp by Stampin' Up! I tend to make a square card. This one is 5.25" square. The background paper was hand stamped using the Painted Petals stamp set along with the challenge colors: Melon Mambo, Soft Sky, Pumpkin Pie and Mossy Meadow. Using a Happy Birthday sentiment by Hero Arts it was stamped with Mossy Meadow and punched with a 1 1/4" circle punch and layered to a slightly larger scalloped circle. To add more flowers I used the Petite Petals stamp set with Melon Mambo and punched with the coordinating Petite Petals punch. The final touch was three Soft Sky Candy Dots and this card was done.

Coffee Thanks Card

Let's talk coffee!!! It is my go to fix for caffeine and I like it dark and bold. I usually buy whole bean coffee because I love grinding coffee beans. The aroma of fresh ground beans is a wonderful part of the coffee experience. In my book coffee makes the perfect gift. It could be a bag of coffee, a gift card for coffee or anything coffee related (craft supplies included). Now I have a lovely Coffee Thanks Card just waiting for the next coffee gift received.

I made this coffee card to play along with the Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop. The layout is casual and I got a little grungy but I really like how it turned out. I hope you like it too. This card is also linked to the Simon Says Stamp Food and Drink challenge.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Coffee Thanks Card supplies:
  • Paper: Very Vanilla, Early Espresso and Delightful Dijon by Stampin' Up! Patterned paper from Sunshine paper pad by MME.
  • Stamps: Coffee Cup by Studio G, Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and Thanks stamp both by Stampin' Up!
  • Inks: Crumb Cake and Early Espresso.
  • Other Stuff: Circle stitched die by My Favorite Things, linen thread and candy dots by Stampin' Up!

Squirrel with Sunflower Card

There are many people who feel squirrels are pests but I absolutely adore them! They are charismatic and thoroughly entertaining. It may not surprise you that I feed them in my backyard so they will come visit. The squirrels here in Eastern Oklahoma are brownish red in color and are classified as a Fox Squirrel. They are super cute!

This Squirrel with Sunflower Card was created in anticipation of fall arriving. I know it's still a month away but I can't wait. I used the sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches for the card design. The Sunny Squirrel digital image is by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps and I colored it with Copic markers. Keeping with the fall theme, I selected patterned papers from Bo Bunny (yellow polka dot) and Stampin' Up! (retired Color Me Autumn dsp). I added some candy dots for detail but decided not to use a sentiment to keep the occasion options open. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Puppy LOVE Card

Hello again!!! I'm the hostess this week at Cardz 4 Guyz and I selected the theme Puppy LOVE. I had Valentine's Day in mind but it could also be a budding romance or a fondness for our canine companions. It's always fun to see the clever ways a challenge theme is interpreted.

To create my Puppy LOVE Card I used patterned papers from the new Stacked With Love designer series paper stack by Stampin' Up! The puppy stamp is by Stampendous! I colored the image with my Copic Markers using cool gray colors. I stamped love onto red cardstock and punched using a Martha Stewart heart punch. Then I added three Candy Dots by Stampin' Up!. That's it!

I hope you will play along with us this week. Click here for more inspiration from the design team at Cardz 4 Guyz. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Quirky Turkey Card Take Two

Hello! I have one week to get all my Thanksgiving cards done. If I would have know earlier in the year that I would go back to work full-time, I wouldn't have procrastinated. Oh well! I am thankful I have a fun new job and it adds an element of fun to have a short deadline. Earlier in the month I made a Quirky Turkey Thanksgiving Card and at the same time I printed out several images and stamped several sentiments. So, I decided to make another Quirky Turkey Card. The image is by Doodle Pantry and comes pre-colored which works perfectly when time is an issue. The patterned papers are from the Pumpkin Patch and Sweater Weather collections both by DCWV. I kept the layout simple with a center focused design. For detail I did some stitching on the green panel and added some Candy Dots. All in all this was a pretty easy card. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day/night!

Relax... Masculine Card

Hello and happy Tuesday! It's time for another challenge at Cardz 4 Guyz. This week we want to see Technology Toys for the Boyz featured on your cards. For my card I used a digital image by San's Designs called Resting Dude. The image was colored with my Copic markers and Stampin' Blendabilities markers. I played around with my patterned papers before I settled on these from The Paper Loft. In the end the colors and patterns worked well with what I wanted to create. The sentiment is from Crafter's Companion and was stamped with Memento black ink. Everything else was simple details... a big brown brad, five Candy Dots and a couple of punched details.

Now, click here to check out the inspiration from my fellow design team members at Cardz 4 Guyz. We would love for you to join us this week! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day.

Good Thoughts Emerging Color Card

Do you ever have one of those days where you just stare at your project and don't know where to start? That was me today! I selected three challenges to create this Good Thoughts Emerging Color Card. A sketch from the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge, colours from ColourQ and a Flower challenge from Stampotique Designers. I think my biggest problem was I didn't have any patterned paper that pulled the colors together. So, after a lot of staring at my project I finally decided to play around with the Emerging Color Technique, click link to view tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.

I'm sure there are many different variations on the Emerging Color Technique. Here are directions for my card: Cut white piece of cardstock to desired size, sponge on the colors you want to use. I used Soft Sky and Wisteria Wonder. Make sure ink is dry and dust over the cardstock with your embossing buddy. Using VersaMark ink and your selected stamp (Petite Petals), randomly stamp onto the cardstock. Apply your clear embossing powder, shake off excess and heat emboss. With you darkest color ink sponge all over your cardstock piece. Rub embossed areas with paper towel to remove surface ink. Repeat process if needed to darken your inked area.

The Wisteria Wonder doesn't really pop with the Rich Razzleberry using this technique but I still think it looks nice. This process is a little messy but it's a lot of fun. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Fresh Prints Birthday Card

My birthday card stash is getting pretty low so I made this Fresh Prints Birthday Card using the new Fresh Prints designer series paper stack by Stampin' Up! I'm really not a fan of the color red but I really love it paired with Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake. I used Pool Party as an accent color and even though it's not one of the dsp colors, it coordinates nicely. The stamp sets used were the Simply Sketched hostess stamp set and the Label Love stamp set which I punched with Artisan Label punch. The final touch were three itty bitty scalloped circle punches with red candy dots in the center. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful night.

*Just a fun little note- this is my 500th post for Savvy Handmade Cards.*

Yummy Cupcake Birthday Card

My favorite cupcakes are chocolate cake with white icing... yum! One of the challenges to celebrate Bugaboo Digi Stamp's fourth birthday is a bingo challenge. When I read the choices (I went with the bottom row across) I knew I had to make a card using their Cupcake - Cherry on Top image. To create this Yummy Cupcake Birthday Card I paper pieced the cupcake liner with striped paper, used puffy paint for the icing and added some dazzling details to the cherry. To add some contrast I stitched around the edge of the card with black thread and added three black candy dots. The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts and all patterned papers are retired by Stampin' Up!. Thanks for stopping by and have a great night and pleasant tomorrow!!!

4 x 7 Thanksgiving Card

This afternoon I decided to shake things up and make a different sized card. It's been awhile since a made a 4 x 7 card, so that's what I did. This 4 x 7 Thanksgiving Card is a casual design. I used the Truly Grateful stamp set by Stampin' Up! and a scallop die by Spellbinders. The twine is from American Crafts and I added a few Candy Dots by Stampin' Up! The colours are full of Autumn tones using Soft Suede, Natural, Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze and a small amount of Daffodil Delight ink for the wheat. I decided to stamp the inside of the card with the sentiment instead of the front, just to be different. One of my favorite things about 4 x 7 cards is I always have envelopes for this size. Well, that's about it. Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!

Spooky Tree Halloween Card

Halloween is a little over a month away! That means I better start making my Halloween Cards. I couldn't think of a better time to start than right now. I found a couple of challenges where I could play along. "ABC' Challenges is having a Tic Tac Toe challenge and I'm using the top row across for my selections. The challenge this week at Use it Tuesday is to use two hoarded supplies. This Spooky Tree Halloween Card was made using patterned papers from the Wicked Fun dsp by Stampin' Up! from a couple of years ago. I've been hoarding this paper because I really love the colors. The second hoarded supply is my black/white twine, I don't know why I hoard it when I can always buy more, but I do.

The main image in this Spooky Tree Halloween Card is from the Best of Halloween stamp set (134381) by Stampin' Up!. I added some black Stickles to the stripes of the patterned paper to add extra texture and sparkle to the card. After I first applied it, I was a little worried that I made the wrong choice. After it dried I was happy with the way it turned out. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Gently Falling Grateful Card

I'm super happy that Autumn has arrived. It's been a little cooler the last couple of days but I'm still waiting for that "big" cool down to hit Oklahoma. Hopefully this year we will have some pretty Autumn color when the leaves turn. It's really hit or miss in our area but one thing is for sure, the leaves in my craftroom have already turned. This Gently Falling Grateful Card features a golden Maple leaf and a burnt orange Oak leaf. I used the rock-n-roll technique with the Gently Falling stamp set by Stampin' Up! to create the leaves and then I fussy-cut them. The layout for this card comes from this weeks sketch at The Paper Players created by Sandy Mathis. When choosing the colors for this card, I was inspired by the color inspiration photo challenge at the Love to Create challenge blog. The final challenge I considered when creating this Gently Falling Grateful Card was the Fashionable Stamping Challenge to use Autumn Colors. The twine and candy dots were the final touches to this card and now I have one more completed Thanksgiving card. Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific day!

Gently Falling Grateful Card Supplies*:
  • Paper: Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla cardstock, sandable cardstock by Core'dinations in Brownie, and Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper.
  • Stamps: Gently Falling and Truly Grateful stamp sets.
  • Inks: Classic stampin' pads in Crushed Curry, More Mustard, Tangerine Tango, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, Baked Brown Sugar, and Chocolate Chip.
  • Other Stuff: Big Shot, Pretty Print embossing folder, sanding block, Adorning Accents edgelit, yellow twine by Doodlebug Design, and chocolate chip candy dots.

Houndstooth Give Thanks Card

Hello! I have a quick post this evening to share my Houndstooth Give Thanks Card. There are many Fall/Autumn challenges out right now and I thought it would be a good time to get a head start on my Thanksgiving cards. It seems I always procrastinate and end up making them all the week before I need them. This year I'm trying to be a little more proactive.

With the exception of the sentiment and embossing folder, all the products used on this card are by Stampin' Up!. Many of the products are retired but they had the look I wanted for this card. I used last years Festival of Prints paper stack, French Foliage stamp set, Cajun Craze dsp and More Mustard card stock. The current products are Natural cardstock, Old Olive cardstock, Early Espresso Core'dinations sandable cardstock, Antique Brads, and Old Olive Candy Dots. The sentiment stamp is part of a larger stamp that I masked and it's from last years dollar bin at Michaels. For the embossed borders I used an Organic Flourish folder by Cricut Cuttlebug. After all was put together I really wished I would have moved the sentiment, brad, and strip of Cajun dsp down a quarter of an inch. It would have centered the brad between the two bottom leaves. Hindsight is always 20/20. Thanks for stopping by and have a great night and pleasant tomorrow!

Trefoil Cross Sympathy Card

Hello! I'm back again with another card. The challenge this week at 'ABC' Challenges is to create a sympathy card to remember those lost on 9/11. In a couple of days it will be twelve years that many innocent people lost their lives. Many grieving hearts were created that day and my heart goes out to each of them this week.

This Trefoil Cross Sympathy Card was made using the Venetian Romance dsp, Trefoil Cross stamp, Love and Sympathy stamp set and Pretty Print embossing folder all by Stampin' Up! I used the Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel again on the cross. Here is the tutorial if you missed my last link. Thanks for stopping by!

Enamel Butterfly Birthday Card

I'm really excited to share this Enamel Butterfly Birthday Card with you! It features a new to me technique called embossed enamel. I was admiring another crafters card last week and she used this technique and I immediately knew I had to try it. Here is the link to a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers. The technique combines water coloring, stamping and embossing. It was a lot of fun and I may have a new addiction. The enamel finish is super shiny and this technique could be used on multiple different project types. I did have to make a run to the craft store for the ultra thick embossing enamel and I found it Hobby Lobby. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day!

Best of Halloween Card

This morning I went and had some stamping fun with other local Stampin' Up! demonstrators. We bring our own projects and share tips about current products. For my project I made this Best of Halloween Card using the Best of Halloween stamp set (134381). The design comes from the Create with Connie and Mary sketch challenge. I loved playing with the Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper (132185) and I finished it off with three pumpkin pie colored candy dots. Thanks for stopping by and have a spectacular Saturday!

Back to School Card

It's really hard to believe that it's time for school to start. My nieces start tomorrow. I'm pretty sure they are ready to go back. Summer is fun but it can be really boring at home. There are a lot of back to school card challenges going on. To participate I made this Back to School Card for my youngest niece. The cute sock monkey image is by Bugaboo digital stamps. I colored the image with my Copic markers and made the sentiment on the computer. The patterned papers are from the Anthologie 6 x 6 collection by We R Memory Keepers and I used kraft card stock for the base. I sponged antique linen distress ink around the image and sentiment panels and added three Candy Dots by Stampin' Up! for the finishing touch. When I was making the sentiment, I wondered if they even use the word arithmetic anymore? I figured if my niece doesn't know the meaning, then it's a good learning moment. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful evening and a pleasant tomorrow!

Koala You're So Sweet Card

Good evening! We had a wonderful weekend and I hope you did too. Yesterday I found a fun sketch from The Sweet Stop and I created this Koala You're So Sweet Card to play along. The image is a colored digi called Kiwi Koala's Watermelon by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. I sponged on the clouds using two different sizes of scallop circle punches and bashful blue (retired) ink by Stampin' Up!. The patterned paper is from American Crafts and the ribbon is from Offray. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder. The sentiment is from the Thankful Accents stamp set by Verve Stamps.  The final touch was three soft sky colored Candy Dots by Stampin' Up!. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Halloween Happiness Sneak Peek

Hello! I hope you are enjoying your day. Yesterday afternoon UPS delivered a box of Stampin' Up! goodies and I couldn't wait to dig in. The first thing I wanted to ink up was the Halloween Happiness stamp and cut into the new Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper. Both will be available beginning August 1st in the new Holiday Happiness Catalog.

To create this Halloween Happiness Card I used the sketch from the A.R.T. Card Challenge . The colors in this card are Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Starfruit and Very Vanilla. To ink up the stamp I masked the leaves and sentiment while I used my classic stampin' pad in Pumpkin Pie. Then I removed the tape and used stampin' write markers in Basic Black and Summer Starfruit. The final touch was the addition of pumpkin pie candy dots. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Good afternoon! This week is really flying by and I still need to get a few things accomplished. Do you ever feel like you need to lock yourself out of your craft room?
